US in Talks with Denmark and Greenland Over New Arctic Bases
The United States is presently engaging in high-level discussions with Denmark and Greenland in order to set up three additional military installations in the southern part of the region in response to Russia and China's attempts to gain a foothold in the GIUK Gap region of the North Atlantic Ocean. Although the discussion began under a cloud of diplomatic controversy following President Donald Trump's comments threatening to "take" Greenland by force, the talks have progressed to a more professional level, with both parties working out a compromise, which may include naming the bases as US territory according to an agreement made in 1951.
